Our Favorite Spots for Sunrises, Sunsets, and Stargazing at Cornman Farms
From the first light of dawn to the soft glow of sunset and the endless stretch of stars above, every moment at Cornman Farms feels like something out of a dream. Whether you’re planning a small wedding in Michigan, searching for the perfect outdoor wedding venue, or simply looking for a peaceful place to soak in nature’s beauty, our farm offers a front-row seat to some of the most breathtaking views around. Here are some of the best spots to admire the night sky on the farm, according to our staff, vendors, and other friends of the farm.
You get the best sunsets from the barn pergola pergola: pink, orange, and yellow skies over rolling green hills. It’s quite picturesque! But in the colder months the upper level of the barn is unbeatable, especially considering that it’s heated.
—Brigitte, Cornman Farms office administrator and event coordinator
For stargazing, I like the end of the gravel lot, away from the lights. It’s a great picture spot for the farm as well. You don’t see the walkway, but you get the farmhouse.
—Erin Sarah, Cornman Farms bartender and server
I love the giant oak tree on the top of the hill. I know it has to be at least 100 years old. I love thinking about how this property must have looked a long time ago, and how others have looked at sunsets in this same spot.
—Chelsea, owner and creative director of Wildscape Floral Co.
Oftentimes we see the sunset from inside the barn, looking off toward the fields. We feel that inside the barn is a great spot to catch the sunset because anyone at any time of year can view it from the upper level of the barn!

Because the farm is technically on a hill, the best place to watch a sunset is in the front yard. In terms of stargazing, the garden seating is idyllic! It provides a clearing, and on a clear night it’s simply magical.

The best place to watch the sunset is the barn so that you can have the prettiest view.

As the chef here at Cornman Farms, I do love a good sunset — but if I’m honest, I might love the sunrise even more. In the kitchen, the sunrise streams through the many windows, filling the space with a golden glow. It’s one of my favorite moments of the day. The sunlight hits the countertops just right, warming the dough as it rises for the day’s baking and making the kitchen feel like a cozy little sauna. It’s a quiet, almost sacred start to the day.
Sunsets at the farm, though, are pure magic. I often catch them from my kitchen desk, looking out over the barn and the willow garden, but when I can step away—if the wedding schedule allows—I have a favorite spot. There’s a big oak tree near the top fields, and if you sit just right, the rest of the world melts away as the sun dips below the horizon. It’s peaceful, grounding, and breathtaking every time.
For stargazing, my boys and I have a favorite spot: right by the 1888 smokehouse. All three of us say this because more often than not, we’re there tending the fire for an overnight smoke. It’s a quiet, reflective place where I often pause at the end of the night before heading home—centering my thoughts while also cherishing the memories made there with my boys, looking up at the same vast sky together.
—Kieron, executive chef and managing partner of Cornman Farms
