Wedding Shopping in Downtown Dexter: Grace Proper
Helping Newlyweds Stop to Smell the Roses
Building a life with another person means dreaming, planning, and persevering together. It’s about creating a shared vision of the future and working together to make it a reality. At our intimate Michigan wedding venue, we do everything in our power to help couples feel connected to each other and calm as can be as they gear up for their nuptials. Nestled on a beautiful farm just outside Ann Arbor, our wedding-friendly gardens and 1834 farmhouse foster meaningful connections with nature and history, too.
Dreaming, planning, and persevering also helped Breana Jackson build something special in downtown Dexter, just a mile down the road from our charming red barn. The perseverance was especially important as she waited five years for the right opportunity to open Grace Proper, her home and lifestyle shop. On the surface, it may look like a tasteful hangout for interior designers, but it’s driven by something deeper than decorating. This place is designed to help all kinds of people adopt a slower pace of life and foster strong ties with others. It’s about taking the time to catch up with friends and loved ones instead of drifting apart. It’s also the perfect place to shop for wedding gifts that help couples nurture the love that joins them and the connection that sustains them during hard times.
Slowing Down to Catch Up
Slow living, Grace Proper’s raison d’etre, is about making space to fully experience gratitude and act with clear intentions. It’s also about leaving enough space for making new connections and deepening existing ones. Grace Proper encourages people to create spaces and habits that align with this mission. It does this by offering a meaning-filled shopping experience.
As Breana told Dexter’s Sun-Times News in 2023, “We are here to help provide the tools to connect with others and yourself.” Those tools include games designed to spark conversations, journals for capturing thankful moments, and greeting cards for offering support and cheer to others.
Grace Proper is also big on using design to promote discussion. Case in point: The shop is tucked inside a vintage building whose entire brick facade is painted purple. Some of its best offerings for newlyweds are cozy blankets, the kind that facilitate togetherness whether draped on a couch or used as picnic seating. They’re super for comforting a cold body or cuddling with a special someone.
The wellness-focused boutique also sells hand-poured candles and other products for shifting the mood from frantic to reflective. They’re an ideal gift for anyone who’s had a lot on their plate leading up to the wedding, from the maid of honor who organized the bridal shower to the mother of the bride who’s traveling across the country for the big day. In addition to encouraging restorative reflection, the shop’s journals offer little canvases for sketching, haiku writing, and other forms of creativity. They’re a thoughtful gift for anyone who’d benefit from a new way to decompress, document life’s small joys, and make new memories.
